Emulate the Virgin Mary
Film installation & audio performance, 2022
As part of the performance series Answer: Orange
Performed 30 May 2022 as part of the Glasgow School of Art MFA Degree Show 2022 opening
Removing her jacket to get to work, Boettcher approached the chalkboard and wrote 'I will always listen to her' twelve times (site specific to this iteration). Moving to the amp near the projection of her looping film Emulate the Virgin Mary (silent), Boettcher paused, gathering herself. Once the film began again, she too began: Starting softly and crescendoing into tears as if in penance, Boettcher prayed the Hail Mary with increased fervor to the tastefully-framed image of her wanking on screen as the words 'Emulate the Virgin Mary' intermittently flash bigger and bigger. As the words overtook the image to finally whiteout the screen at climax, so, too, did Boettcher's prayer climax and end abruptly, the room left to recover from the release.
ONGOING PERFORMANCE—AVAILABLE FOR COMMISSION (new iteration)
also performed as part of And We Walk: Of Inconsolable Memories and Crucified Pleasure (see And We Walk)

How to Divorce Your Family: A Lecture
Performance, 2022
As part of the performance series Answer: Orange
Performed 5 & 11 June 2022 as part of the Glasgow School of Art MFA Degree Show 2022
The room set as a classroom, Boettcher entered in a suit and heels, addressing the audience as a lecturer. Projecting her presentation on the whiteboard, she began educating the audience on how to divorce one's family. What was actually on screen were images of her and her life over the past ten years, her 'examples' actual situations and stories from her journey toward releasing the gravity of her biological family. The hour+-long lecture/performance slowly divulged into an intimate discussion with the audience as she causally sat before them, the lecture ending by showing a short video edit to Harry Styles' Matilda (Instagram reel below) and playing the entirety of the song that is eerily word-for-word her experience. (NOTE: Megan Lucille Boettcher is not personally acquainted with Harry Styles)

Orange
Performance featuring wearable works, 2022
As part of the performance series Answer: Orange
Performed 12 June 2022 as part of the Glasgow School of Art MFA Degree Show 2022
Boettcher hates (hated) the color orange. It is her mother's favorite color (as she remembers). But orange does not deserve her hatred, and she wanted to rectify that. Sewing and curating an entire outfit in the color, Boettcher arrived to the exhibition on the final day and just was from open to close—however she desired, taking up space in her authentic expression in a color that (among other meanings) symbolizes transmutation, creation, and change. The finale to the performance series, Orange was Boettcher's (then-current) answer to the questions posed and journey of Answer: Orange—a reclamation of body, being, story, and space.

best performed in (unconventional) public spaces
